Parler for iPhone Is Back on the App Store
A social media service with mostly far-right content, Parler is now available to download on your iPhone from the App Store. Parler’s chief policy officer Amy Peikoff told The Washington Post that the software has been able to return to the App Store after the development team had implemented improved moderation tools to adhere to Apple’s rules.
According to release notes, Parler for iOS version 2.39 includes “enhanced threat and incitement reporting tools” along with unspecified bug fixes and stability improvements.
As Apple’s content rules are so stringent, posts that Parler’s artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm flags as hateful will be automatically hidden from users in the iOS app. Such posts will be viewable on other devices and the web, interim CEO Mark Meckler told The Verge.
Following the news, the company named George Farmer, its chief operating officer since March, as its new chief executive. As for interim CEO Mark Meckler, he will be leaving the company soon, Reuters has it.
But, when will Android users be able to download the app from the Play Store?
What About Parler for Android?
When it comes to the Android version, the ball is in Parler’s court. A Google spokesperson provided AndroidPolice with the following statement:
A Parler version complying with Google’s policies had not yet been submitted at post time.
Even though Parler remains absent from the Play Store, Android customers can freely side-load the app for separate standalone installation. If that’s your cup of tea, an Android version of the app that’s suitable for side-loading is available to download from the Parler website.
