Nintendo hasn’t been at all subtle about the running theme of the next Paper Mario game. Paper Mario: The Origami King is all about origami and boasts plenty of origami-based characters (like the game’s villain, Olly, the titular Origami King) and gameplay features that incorporate folding up Mario and his paper world in unique ways.

The series has never been too shy about breaking the fourth wall, but Nintendo has taken it a step further with this game’s promotion. In Japan, the company has introduced origami-style pamphlets that let people unfold them to reveal new information regarding The Origami King’s story and gameplay.

Aside from being a perfectly on-brand advertisement, these pamphlets are incredible in their own right. As shown in the video shared by PushDustin on Twitter, they’re able to unfold a surprising number of times before finally looping back to the pamphlet’s cover. On a purely technical level, it’s impressive that someone was able to figure out how to make that work.

It remains to be seen if Nintendo has applied the same level of quality to the game itself, but there’s hope that it will. The first review for Paper Mario: The Origami King came out earlier today and gave the game a very high score. That suggests it could end up being better received by fans than the series’ last few entries have. Whether it actually will, however, should be made clearer in the coming days.

Either way, plenty of Nintendo fans will likely just be glad to have something new to play from the company. It’s been a quiet year so far for first-party Switch titles outside of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and so far Nintendo has yet to confirm any other major new titles for 2020. But with a Nintendo Direct rumored to be taking place in July, hopefully that will be addressed soon, and fans will have something to look forward to after they finish up the next Paper Mario adventure.

Paper Mario: The Origami King will launch on July 17 for the Switch.
