Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf has denounced the attacks in recent weeks, and Pakistani security forces boasted that they’d arrested 12 militants who belong to outlawed extremist groups. The government is also making it easier for Christian communities to get firearms licenses. Still, Christians are looking out for their own safety in other ways, like organizing community-watch programs. “The police and Army have failed to protect us,” says Pakistani architect Latif Chauhan. “We have to do something to defend ourselves.”
